This discipline relies on the Laboratory of Drug Discovery from Natural Resources and Industrialization & State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines, focusing on drug target identification, pharmacological and toxicological evaluations, and innovative drug development. It brings together academicians, top scientists, and international teams to create a research chain from basic to applied methodologies. The discipline integrates cutting-edge technologies to develop new therapies for metabolic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, immune disorders, and tumors, while simultaneously promoting the translation of "industry-academia-research" collaborations. Currently, 15 original drug pipelines have been established (including one in Phase II clinical trials), with several early achievements receiving international patents and awards. The Pharmacology has been rated as a first-class undergraduate program in the country, showcasing the synergy between science and education. The "Pharmacology and Toxicology" discipline at the Macau University of Science and Technology entered the top 1% globally in ESI from May 13, 2021. As of February 28, 2025, ESI has indexed a total of 784 papers with a cumulative citation count of 14,065 times, averaging 17.94 citations per paper.
