The MUST Faculty Research Grants(FRG)

P  General Research Grants (GRFs)

1.          The funding target is the full-time teaching and research staff of the University.

2.          The scope of funding covers original research projects in the research fields of arts and sciences.

3.          The amount of funding is MOP10,000 to MOP100,000 per research project. Each grant in the field of liberal arts research does not exceed MOP30,000, and each grant in the field of science and medicine research does not exceed MOP100,000.

4.          In view of the different sources of funding, researchers in the fields of science and medical research can only apply for general research grants once during their tenure, while researchers in the fields of liberal arts can apply multiple times. Researchers in the field of liberal arts are allowed to apply again after completion of their previous projects.

5.          Research period is 6-12 months, which may be extended after approval, but the longest extension period shall not exceed 6 months.

6.          The total number of project team members is usually 1-3.

P  Strength Team Research Grants (STRGs)

1.          The funding target is a scientific research team with good research foundation and research strength, and the members of the project team should be full-time staff of the university as the core members, supplemented by off-campus academics. The total number of project team members is usually 3-10.

2.          The person in charge of the project should be a well-known expert and scholar in this research field, a full-time teaching and research staff of associate professor or above in the university, or distinguished professor.

3.          The scope of funding can include original research projects and interdisciplinary projects in the liberal arts field. Pure science or medicine projects will not be funded.

4.          Research projects and contents must conform to the strategic academic development direction of the university, especially those “iconic projects” that can promote research atmosphere in the university and to formulate academic advantages in related research fields. The main research content of the research project should be carried out in the university.

5.          The amount of funding is MOP200,000-MOP1,000,000 for each project, and each funded project in the arts field does not exceed MOP500,000, and the interdisciplinary research field does not exceed MOP1,000,000.

6.          For interdisciplinary projects, researchers in the fields of science or medicine can only apply once as project leaders. Researchers in the field of liberal arts can apply multiple times, and they can only apply again after completion of their previous projects.

7.          The project team members who participate in the research team are regarded as undertaking a general research project, but it does not affect their eligibility to apply for the General Research Grant, and the project leader may not apply for the General Research Grant at the same time.

8.          The research period is usually 12-24 months. After approval, it may be extended but the longest extension period shall not be more than 6 months.

P  Research Conference Grants (RCGs)

1.          Priority will be given to applications for international academic conferences submitted by associate professors or above, or by a combination of faculty members.

2.          The content of the conference must be of a clear academic research and exchange nature, which can promote the development of academic research and international academic exchange at the University.

3.          The conference can invite internationally renowned researchers and scholars as keynote speakers, and can attract internal and external faculty and students to attend the conference.

4.          The conference schedule and budget are generally clear.

5.          The amount of funding is generally $20,000-$100,000 per project, with priority given to projects with a 1:1 match or higher.

6.          A funded Conference Fund project is not considered to be a research project of the University undertaken by the project applicant or project team members.
