The Earth Science discipline at Macau University of Science and Technology has achieved rapid development by leveraging national and university-level research platforms such as the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences and the Space Science Institute. With the continued advancement of China’s deep space exploration endeavors, the discipline has positioned Earth science within the broader context of planetary science. Significant accomplishments have been made in areas including the origin and evolution of Earth and planets, the evolution of habitable environments, mission design for space exploration, and the development of space detection technologies. According to statistics from the Institutes of Science and Development, Chinese Academy of Sciences, from 2021 to 2025, Macau University of Science and Technology ranked seventh globally in the number of published papers on lunar research, demonstrating its outstanding international influence. In terms of academic program development, the university launched China’s first master’s and doctoral programs in Earth and Planetary Sciences. In recent years, it has further introduced a Master’s program in Space Big Data Analytics and a Bachelor’s program in Space Science and Technology. This has gradually formed a comprehensive talent development system that spans bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, integrating cutting-edge fundamental research with advanced technological applications.
